About Eureka Climb

Welcome to Eureka Climb, one of the highest ‘vertical’ races in the Southern Hemisphere.

  • Eureka Climb is Melbourne’s most unique charity fundraising event held at one of the world’s tallest residential buildings
  • Eureka Climb will raise money for disadvantaged young people at home and abroad. Or motto is ‘climbing higher to rebuild young lives’
  • Eureka Climb participants can enter individually or create a team of four
  • Eureka Climb will involve participants walking, running or climbing the 1,642 stairs to the top
  • Eureka Climb is open for people of all ages and fitness levels
  • Eureka Climb will be an all-day event with lots of entertainment, festivities and activites with the Eureka Tower as the focal point
  • Eureka Climb is in the top 10 (amount of stairs) of stair climbs in the world
  • Eureka Climb will also host an Elite Race for some of Australia’s best stair climbers. The fastest male and fastest female on the day will receive return flights, transfers and five nights accommodation in New York City courtesy of Travelscene American Express
  • Eureka Climb will also host an Emergency Services category featuring members from the Metropolitan Fire Brigade (MFB), plus Ambulance Victoria, Victoria Police, the Coast Guard and other services
  • Eureka Climb has more stairs than the Empire State Building

About Eureka Tower

Fast facts

  • Eureka Tower opened on October 11, 2006 taking 4 years 2 months to complete
  • Construction cost approximately A $500 million
  • The world’s fourth-tallest residential tower
  • Height of Building 984.3 ft / 300m
  • Eureka’s 13 lifts are the fastest in the Southern Hemisphere
  • Lifts travel at more than 9 metres per second
  • The facade consists of glass aluminium panels covering an area of 40,000 sq. metres
  • The glass on the top 8 floors is 24 carat gold infused
  • The Tower used 110,000 tonnes of concrete and weighs 200,000 tonnes
  • 92 storeys – 52,000 sq. metres of windows
  • The Skydeck is situated on the 88th floor and is the highest public vantage point (285m) in the Southern Hemisphere
  • The top of the Tower can flex up to 600mm in high winds. Two 300,000 litre water tanks on levels 90 & 91 help to dampen the oscillations
  • Horizontal white lines on Eureka Tower represent the centimetres and millimetres of a ruler

Thank you to over 1,200 people who participated win Eureka Climb 2010. Over $175,000 was raised which will go a long way towards ‘rebuilding young lives’.

2010 Highest Individual Fundraising prizes were awarded to the following people:
